Our culture supports us to be split off from our sensate body nature. We often ignore our physical, emotional and spiritual bodies and relate more to the world through our rational, analytical mind. When we do this, we are cut off from the deepest core of our capacity for compassion. The seed of compassion grows from where we live - in our bodies.
As Daniel Odier says in Desire, the Tantric Path to Awakening - "One of the great discoveries of presence is that we can have total trust in the body...... It is marvelously capable of providing us with an immediate response to most situations in which a choice is required."
Using inner focused Yoga asana and pranayama (breath work), along with awareness-based practice from Gestalt therapy, we will experiment with our own sense of embodiment in relation to self and others - with compassion as our guide.
BIO -
Eliana Baccas is a graduate of the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland with a specialty in working with Physical Process. Her practice is informed by extensive background in Yoga and spiritual exploration, and by her desire to experience and share passion and playfulness in her life. Eliana uses Gestalt process to take her work to a deeper level of integration and to effect positive change. She believes that Gestalt practice supports vibrant aliveness; and that Gestalt psychology, like Yoga, enhances our ability to be fully present in each moment.
In addition to client sessions, Eliana offers ongoing groups and workshop trainings in “Body Wisdom” - living life to the fullest, opening creative channels, releasing anxiety and fears, and rising to the heights of which we are capable. Her Body Wisdom Course reflects her 30-plus years of experience and study, joining the spiritual wisdom of Yoga with the physical process work of Gestalt psychology. Eliana’s focus on emotional wellbeing together with spiritual and body awareness is what distinguishes her work.
The founder and former director of SpiralFlight Center for Yoga and the Arts in Washington, DC, Eliana has been a devoted daily practitioner of Yoga and meditation since 1976, and she is a 500 hour Registered Yoga Alliance teacher. Her teaching focuses on awakening the intelligence of the inner body and offers students a deeper, more primal level of body/mind awareness.
Eliana’s life and work have been strongly influenced and guided by gifted energy healer Luisa Kolker of Santa Fe, by world renowned Yoga teachers Victor van Kooten and Angela Farmer, and by studies such as daily reading of the Bhagavad Gita, learning the Sanskrit language, and playing classical piano. These practices have supported Eliana’s commitment to her own spiritual growth and her ability to inspire others. She believes that we evolve by gently unfolding rather than by forcing, and by coming to trust and love our own wholeness.

JONATHAN WILL BE BACK NEXT YEAR!FOR THE
4TH Annual Meditation Vinyasa Urban Retreat w/ Jonathan Reynolds
SORRY IF YU MISSED THIS YEARS. COME NEXT YEAR!
From people who have taken the retreat with Jonathan: “Every once in a while I like to get a fresh inspiration or approach to my yoga practice. Jonathan offers a wonderful opportunity to do so, transforming our familiar yoga space (place, body and mind) into an inspirational retreat. I really enjoy his playful, energetic approach to teaching. His ability to combine wisdom, strength and humor invited deeper self-awareness and confidently encouraged me to push my boundaries in new ways.” RM
*******************
"Having just returned from a week of Vinyasa Flow Boot Camp in Hawaii, I have to say thank you to Jonathan Reynolds for turning me on to this style of yoga a couple of years ago. His gentle voice combined with the demanding poses was the perfect combination of yin and yang. I left his first workshop feeling stronger and calmer. I bought his CD and listened to it as when I practiced at home. Last year I also attended his weekend workshop and again was struck with his calm and confidant voice and his command of the asanas and weaving of relevant narrative and sharing from his own experience throughout the practice. So thank you, Carla, for bringing the gift of Jonathan to Madison. I urge everyone to experience his wonder." GB

Class Descriptions
Meditation Vinyasa Yoga: Movement of Body, Movement of Mind
This class uses vinyasa (flow), modifying breath to create movement in the body, to allow the practitioner insight into yoga as a whole. This is a powerful form of yoga that can be both physically and mentally challenging. By using vinyasa (roughly sun salutations) as yoga's physical building block, we realize the breath as the building block of consciousness. Yoga as meditation allows us to experience honesty by transcending perceived limitations; building an appreciation of love, integrity, and union. Chanting and seated meditation are central to this experience, allowing us to connect in new ways to ourselves as well as others.
Insight Meditation (Vipassana)
Meditation is the practice of stilling the mind. In this experience we use vipassana (insight) meditation to achieve this stillness. The experience is structured to both introduce newcomers to vipassana meditation, and to allow those with an already existing practice to deepen with community. If you enjoy yoga, this is an excellent platform to deepen and mature your practice.
Satsang: Community Conversations on Awareness
Satsang means 'Community of Truth'. This experience is an opportunity to come together with others and to share from our deepest, most authentic selves and experiences. Everyone is welcome; the evening is structured to both introduce newcomers to this ancient practice of circling and council, and to allow those with more practice experience to share their insights with community.
