| From Carla, Director of A Perfect Knot Thank you so much for visiting this site! You have found a friendly, small studio that has existed in the Willy St. neighborhood since I opened the center in 1996. Not interested in business or capitalism, I found I had to open a studio because there were not enough class times available at the mere two studios existing in Madison at that time. Beginning with 11 classes per week and being the only teacher, over the years, the Knot has become a place that offers newer teachers a place to dive in and the seasoned to teach more. For some of you, it may be important to know that this studio is run with a minimum of hierarchy. There are no employees or contracts; we are independent teachers, yet joined by our love of the vast expanse that is Yoga. We do not have a retail section, the space is simple, and we are doing well at keeping our prices lower than most studios in the U.S. The Knot is purely about studying, teaching, and enjoyment. Why is our yoga center named A Perfect Knot? One idea behind it involves the meaning of the word "yoga". Yoga is a Sanskrit word meaning "to bind". One intention of yoga practice is to develop the mind, body, and spirit into a fully alive, balanced union: a perfect knot. Another idea that made me choose this name is that, sometimes, the "knots" we find in our bodies and the "knots" we can recognize in our minds, (non-beneficial repeating thought patterns, habitual ways of thinking, non-negotiable beliefs or opinions, etc.), give us valuable information that we may use for increasing and maintaining our well-being. Knots typically have a bad reputation. From an expanded perspective, they are "perfect knots" for the information they give us about the necessary healing and preventative actions we could take. Happily, 11 years in and we are still going strong! Please feel welcome to come by and say hello, take a class, or talk to me about teaching here. See you then. |
An Invitation Whoever you are Wanderer, worshiper, lover of living It doesn't matter Ours is not a caravan of despair. Even if you have broken your vow a thousand times Come Come And yet again Come! ~Rumi |
